Mastercard at Ezz
There is a reversal of authority that card users rarely notice: the decisive vote is not cast by the cashier, it is cast by the bank that issued the plastic. The issuer approves, declines, sets ceilings and classifies the transaction. This file is therefore ordered by power rather than by screen — issuer first, network second, platform last. The rest of the cashier is on the payments page.

What the issuer checks first
Before any value moves, the issuing bank tests three things: whether the account has cover, whether the transaction category is permitted on that card's profile, and whether strong authentication was completed. Several Portuguese banks keep gaming categories blocked by default on credit cards, and some allow the block to be lifted in the app. When the refusal originates here, the operator never learns an attempt was made — which is why the gaming account history looks empty while the player is certain of having tried three times.
Cards that create trouble later
- Anonymous prepaid cards pass on the way in and prove nothing at verification.
- Company cards name a company as holder, which can never match an individual gaming account.
- Single-use virtual cards are excellent for privacy and awkward when a refund needs somewhere to land.
- Cards denominated in another currency add a conversion in each direction, priced inside the exchange rate rather than shown as a fee.
The statement line and the clock it starts
Each transaction leaves a line carrying date, amount and the processor's identifier. That line is the reference document for any query, and it also starts the dispute window at the issuer — a limited period counted from the transaction date, not from the day a problem was noticed. Keeping the month's statement has a practical purpose beyond tidiness: it is the dated evidence.
Disputing is not the same as requesting a refund. Charging back a transaction that was knowingly authorised, because the session went badly, normally leads to account closure and a frozen balance, and belongs to the terms rather than to payments.
The split on the way out
Refunds to a card are capped at the amount originally charged; anything beyond it leaves by transfer to a PT50 IBAN in the account holder's name. One withdrawal can therefore appear as two movements on two calendars. The card leg takes one to three business days to reach the statement and depends on the issuer as much as on the operator. The banking leg is described in the SEPA file, and the document requirements in the withdrawal file.
